The recent USD 470 Board of Education election was held November 7th, 2017.
According to the Cowley County Traveler, this is the first election under a new state law that makes voters vote this fall instead of the spring, for local elections. There are currently three positions up for grabs on the USD 470 Board of Education.
The current board members are Joe Woodard, President, Marty Moulton, Mike Mun-
son, Jon Oak, Daren Reese, Evelyn Shoup, and Lance Niles who is filling in for Dr. Aar-
The election of a new board member consists on whether a new position is open.
Board members serve four-year terms and board members are staggered so the members of the board do not all leave at once.
The candidates running for the new position were Tyler Yung, Kate Reilly, Damon Mendoza, Lori Barnes, Rhoda MacLaughlin-Ramirez and Lance Niles.
The candidates will be aspiring to make USD 470 a better learning environment. A main focus that these candidates really put an emphasis on was keeping and retaining
teachers in the USD 470 school district.
Rhoda MacLaughlin-Ramirez, Lori Barns, and Lance Niles won the three open chairs
on the USD 470 Board of Education.
